The Power of Persistent Prayer

Jesus told a parable about a widow who kept coming to an unjust judge — day after day, refusing to give up — until he finally granted her request. And then Jesus said: "Will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night?" (Luke 18:7)

The point is not that God is reluctant and needs to be worn down. The point is that persistent prayer reveals the depth of your trust. It shows that you believe God is real, that He hears, and that His answer is worth waiting for.

Notice the purpose of the parable: always pray and not give up. Jesus knew we would be tempted to quit. He knew there would be seasons where heaven feels silent and our prayers feel like they're bouncing off the ceiling. He told this parable for those exact moments.

Why We Stop Praying

We stop praying when we believe one of three lies: that God isn't listening, that He doesn't care, or that our situation is too far gone. Every one of those lies is directly contradicted by scripture.

  He is listening."The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry." (Psalm 34:15) Your prayers are not disappearing into the void — they are reaching the throne of God.

  He cares deeply."Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." (1 Peter 5:7) The God who numbers the hairs on your head is not indifferent to what you're carrying.

  Nothing is too far gone."Is anything too hard for the Lord?" (Genesis 18:14) The God who raised Jesus from the dead is not stumped by your situation.

Pray today. Pray tomorrow. Pray when you feel it and pray when you don't. Persistent prayer is not a sign of desperation — it is a declaration of faith. It says: I believe You are real, I believe You hear me, and I am not giving up.
